Things I Learned From Being in Self-Quarantine #StayAtHome
It’s
been almost three weeks since last time I met my college mates and, I kid you
not, I miss them and their stupid jokes. Yes, I can still contact them through
social media but it’s just different. Being an introvert, I never mind staying at home. At least, that’s how I feel before the government told me to
stay in. Now that everyone is inside, I feel the need to rebel and go outside.
Despite
all the struggles, I do believe that there’s a silver lining in this situation.
Instead of seeing the Corona outbreak as a hindrance, I choose to see it as a
reminder from the universe for us to slow down a bit and reassess our goals and
life purposes. I personally have learned several things during the self-quarantine.
#1 I Actually Learn How to Cook
For
someone who doesn’t enjoy cooking, it is a progress. I am quite picky when it
comes to food and flavor, so cooking has never been my thing. However, during
this quarantine, I end up spending more time in the kitchen to help eating
preparing the meals. I even put some efforts to try out random recipes
that I found on the internet, such as the Banatella Sandwich, Potato Cheese Omelette,
and the Fruit Milk Pudding. They're not that bad!
#2 Online Learning isn’t All Rainbows
I always thought that online class would
be fun and less stressful, but it turns out to be more of
a challenge. I personally find it hard to follow through online courses,
especially when the materials are difficult and require thorough explanation
from the lecturers. Bad connection can be quite devastating as well when it
comes to online class presentation. While the flexibility it offers could mean freedom, it also means self-discipline and independence. I should be able to manage my own time in doing the assignments. No one is going to keep an eye on me or tell me when to do it. I just have to make sure I finish everything before the deadline. Self-discipline and time management is indeed crucial for the time being if you don't wanna end up drowning in a sea of responsibilities.
#3 It Isn’t Weak for Needing Support
Staying at home might sound simple
at first, but it isn’t. Especially not when you keep being bombarded with news about
the rising number of the cases, while simultaneously being chased by the due date of your assignments. The pressure I get during the
quarantine is immaculate. It has brought me to the realization how damaging my way of coping with stress is. Bottle
things up is a terrible idea. From now on, I always try to remind
myself that it’s normal for needing extra support.
#4 I Am Grateful for My Life
I feel like I might just took everything I have so far in my
life for granted before. The quarantine reminds me how lucky I am to have roof
above my head, comfy chair to sit, and enough food to eat every day during the
quarantine. There are many people out there have no choice but to risk their lives
to fulfill their daily needs. So, don’t forget to be grateful of what you
already have and please stay at home if you have the privilege to do so, for the sake of everyone.
